Suitable riding boots should have a secure fit and an appropriate heel. The right footwear can provide support and help keep the feet positioned correctly in the stirrups.
Check Your Helmet
A properly fitted riding helmet is an important part of riding safety. Make sure it sits securely and is designed for equestrian use. Follow the instructions provided by your riding school or instructor.
Arrive Early
Arriving a little early gives you time to prepare without feeling rushed. You may have an opportunity to meet your horse, learn about the day’s lesson, and listen to important instructions before mounting.
Prepare Yourself Mentally
It is normal for beginners to feel nervous before their first lesson. Take a moment to relax and remember that learning horse riding takes time. Listen carefully to your instructor and ask questions when something is unclear.
Learn About the Horse
If appropriate, your instructor may show you how to approach, groom, or prepare the horse. Learning these basic routines can help you become more comfortable around the animal.
With suitable clothing, proper equipment, a calm mindset, and good preparation, beginners can start their horse riding lessons with greater comfort and confidence.
